Yorkshire win 2007 President’s Cup

Sandy Davies writes:- Eleven counties participated in this major annual event which was hosted by Merseyside and
Cheshire County Bridge Association in Birkenhead on the 4th and 5th of August. Yorkshire finished first for the second
successive year having gradually overtaken Manchester, the early leaders.

The team selected represented a mixture of experience and youth. Congratulations go to all the eight players who
all performed excellently with the younger members of the team doing particularly well. Their enthusiasm and contribution
to the team was most commendable. The team was Sandy Davies (captain), Tom Gisborne, Mike Ingham, David Lewis,
Adam Dickinson, Dominic Pinto, Steve Raine and Robert Myers. This result augurs well for the future.

Bill's Book now a bargain at £6

Bill Townsend, bridge columnist for English Bridge and the Yorkshire Post, has had an unusual bridge book published,
a bridge novel. The plot revolves loosely around the secondment of four teachers to a project aimed at introducing
bridge into the school curriculum. Clark, the hero of the book and a bridge expert, unwittingly gets drawn into an
underhand scheme by the headmaster, whose real intention is to get rid of these four bolshy teachers. This involvement
threatens Clark's new found relationship with Susan, and the plot thickens when something else in his past appears.

A romantic, humorous novel, but with a dark undertone, and 50 or so bridge hands, largely original, to keep you busy.
'Bridge out of School' is published by Vivisphere. ISBN 10: 1-58776-155-6 or ISBN 13:978-1-58776-155-3. If you have
any difficulty obtaining it, Bill still has some copies available at £6.00 (plus £1 p&p). He can be contacted on 0113 2674325
