Pachabo Cup
13th-14th June 2009
Yorkshire was represented by the team of David Musson, Graham Jepson, Richard Pike & David Robinson,
(winners of the Waddington Shield.) They achieved a respectable 199.5 vps to take 3rd place.
Garden Cities R/F
16th May 2009
Bradford Bridge Club, representing Yorkshire in the regional heat of the Garden Cities Trophy, won the heat convincingly.
The Team was:
Tony McNiff and Bill Townsend, Sarah Teshome and Richard Winter,
Bob Ross and Richard Edwards, Mike Marston and Paul Tempest.
The final is on 20th June.

Sarah Teshome, Richard Winter, Bill Townsend & Tony McNiff reached the quarter-finals.
Jersey Congress
24th April-3rd May 2009
Cheryl Duddell & David Duddell, with Diana Avis & Colin Wilson, won the multiple teams.
The same team came 4th in the Swiss Teams, just ahead of Roy Garthwaite, Heather Hobson, Janet Latham & Ted Latham
Dale Strawn & Bobbie Sissons were 6th in the Mid-week Championship Pairs.
In the Mixed Pairs Ted Latham & Janet Latham were 6th, Liz Reese, with Robert Watts, was 8th.
The Seniors Pairs was won by Roy Garthwaite & Heather Hobson, ahead of Ted Latham & Janet Latham in 3rd place.
Yorkshire players figured strongly in the Seniors Teams, which was won by Bobbie Sissons, Dale Strawn, Gill Pitcher & Peter Pitcher
Liz Reese played in Clive Owen's team, which came 2nd, while Roy Garthwaite, Heather Hobson, Janet Latham & Ted Latham were 4th=.

Three Yorkshire players were in the team which retained the trophy for England by 190 to 165 vps.

Buxton Easter Festival
10-12th April 2009
Many Yorkshire players enjoyed the return to the (Barcelo) Palace Hotel where the old BBL Spring Congress used to be.
This year however, it was the Northern Easter Festival, re-sited from Blackpool, which drew them.
Heather Hobson & Roy Garthwaite were 2nd in the Swiss Pairs, with Angela Booth & Peter Radley 5th
and Mary Whyms & Rob Turner 6th. 67 pairs competed.
Mary Whyms, Martin White, Rod Hose and Rob Turner were 2nd in the Swiss Teams. 35 teams competed.
London Easter Festival
10-12th April 2009
The Championship Pairs saw Phil Godfrey & Croz Croswell take 4th place, behind such luminaries as Zia Mahmood & David Bakhshi,
Brian Senior & Kumiko Ishii and Alex Hydes, (formerly of Wakefield,) who partnered Ewa Kater to win the title. 105 pairs competed.
Phil Godfrey with team-mates Nicole Cook, Croz Croswell and Martin Jones, were 10th in the Swiss Teams,
this time 1vp and one place above Alex & Ewa's team. 80 teams competed.
Tom Rainforth & Shivam Shah won the Under 25 Pairs with a massive butler score of 108, well clear of their nearest rivals.
Portland Pairs

Sandy Davies & Dave Robinson were 3rd overall, with 59.96%
Liz Reese & Dave Broadhead were 20th, with 57.41%

The North East team beat the North West team by 84 Imps over the 36 boards.

Disappointment in Tolly Final
On this occasion Yorkshire were unable to fulfil the promise they had shown in the qualifying round.
Despite 3 wins and a draw out of 7 matches, a couple of heavy defeats saw them sink to last place in the table.

National Swiss Teams
David Banks of Sheffield BC was a member of the team that came second in this event
at Hinckley on 17-18th January, with a score of 174 vps. 66 teams took part.
Stan Collins
We are very sad to report that Stan Collins collapsed and died whilst walking home from Harrogate BC,
on Thursday night (Dec 11th). The YCBA has sent condolences to his family.
Success in Derbyshire
Yorkshire's Malcolm Lunn, playing with Christopher Challinor of Bedfordshire, scored
106 vps to win the Derbyshire/Leicestershire 1-day Swiss Pairs on 27th September.
Big Yorkshire Improvement in Tolly Regional
Yorkshire's Tollemache team won its group in the qualifying round with 114 vps to Warwickshire's 106.
Special mention goes to Hugh McGann and Fiona Brown, playing in their first Tolly, who were top of the Butler scoring.
The full line-up was Richard Winter, Sarah Teshome, Tom Gisborne, Sandy Davies, Hugh McGann, Fiona Brown,
David Robinson, Mike Pomfrey, Phil Godfrey & Steve Raine, with Graham Jepson as non-playing captain.

Tony McNiff and Bill Townsend, playing for Tony Sowter's Nottinghamshire-based team, won their Gold Cup quarter-final.
The semi-final is due to be played at Peebles on Dec 13/14. We wish them the best of luck.

Fiona Brown and Hugh McGann were the winners of the Swiss Pairs.
Giles Foster was a member of the winning team in the A final of the Swiss Teams.
EBU Northern Summer Seniors Congress at Harrogate
Janet and Ted Latham won the Championship Pairs.
Pauline Cooper, Roger Taylor, Alan Martindale and Richard Hilton won the Swiss Teams.
EBU Brighton Congress
Fiona Brown and Steve Raine won the Mixed Pairs event.
National Inter-County League
Having qualified by winning their division in last year’s Northern Bridge League,
Yorkshire finished in fourth place in the C division final of the National Inter-County League.
